Account deletion

Deleting your Chefo account

You can do it yourself, from inside Chefo, in under a minute — you do not have to ask anybody, and nobody will try to talk you out of it. If you cannot get into the app, write to us instead and we will do it for you. Either way it is permanent: the recipes, the cookbooks, the plans and the photographs go with the account, and none of it can be brought back.

IN THE APP

Five taps, and it is done

This is the whole route. Chefo asks twice on purpose — once to tell you what goes, once to make you type the word.

  1. 01Open Chefo and tap your pictureTop right of the home screen, beside the greeting.
  2. 02Tap SettingsThe first row, under your name.
  3. 03Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete accountIt sits in the About card, in red, next to Privacy and Terms.
  4. 04Read what goes, then tap ContinueChefo counts your recipes and cookbooks back to you first.
  5. 05Type DELETE and tap Delete everythingIn capitals. The button stays dim until the word matches.

The account is gone the moment you tap it — there is no waiting period and no grace period, and Chefo returns you to the welcome screen with nothing behind it.

OR WRITE TO US

If you cannot get in

Lost the phone, deleted the app already, or the sign-in will not come back — write to us and we will delete it by hand. Send it from the email address you signed in with: that address is the only proof we have that the account is yours, and a request from anywhere else cannot be honoured.

SUBJECT

Delete my Chefo account

WE REPLY

Within a day, usually. Deleted within 30 days at the very latest, and we write again once it is done.

Cancel Pro first, if you have it

Pro is bought through the App Store on iPhone and through Google Play on Android, so it belongs to the Apple ID or the Google account that paid for it rather than to your Chefo account, and we cannot cancel it for you — we never see it. Deleting the account while a subscription is running leaves the subscription running. Cancel it first, in the App Store's or Google Play's own subscription settings, then come back and delete the account.

What goes

All of it, on every device you ever signed in on. There is nothing left in an archive somewhere.

×Every recipe in your box, including the ones you wrote yourself
×Every cookbook, including the ones you shared with other people
×Your plan, your shopping list and what you have cooked
×The photographs you took of your own recipes
×Any Chefo link other people are still holding — the page stops opening
×Your profile, your name and the sign-in itself

What does not

Three things sit outside the account, and it is fairer to say so than to let you find out.

Your subscription

Pro is bought from Apple or from Google, and it follows the Apple ID or Google account that bought it rather than your Chefo account. Deleting the account does not cancel it — cancel it first, in the App Store's or Google Play's own subscription settings, or you will keep being charged.

Emails you have sent us

A message you sent from inside Chefo goes with the account, screenshots and all. A thread you started from your own mail app sits in a mailbox instead, where deleting the account cannot reach it — say the word in your message and we will delete that too.

Backups, briefly

Backups roll over on a schedule, so a copy taken before you deleted can survive for up to thirty days. It is never used to bring an account back.

A few other things

Signed in with Apple or Google?

Deleting the Chefo account is enough on its own. If you would also like Apple or Google to forget the connection, that is done in their settings rather than ours — on iPhone, Settings, your name, then Sign in with Apple; on Android, your Google account's third-party connections.

Only want one recipe gone?

You do not need any of this. Open the recipe, tap the menu and delete it — the recipe and its photograph go, and the account stays exactly as it was.

Want a copy before you go?

Ask, and we will send you everything we hold on you in a readable file. Write from the address you signed in with, before you delete — afterwards there is nothing left to send.

Leaving because something broke?

Tell us what it was first — often it is a recipe that would not read, and that we can fix. If you would still rather go afterwards, the door is right above.
