These are the terms you accept by using Chefo, and they are short on purpose. Chefo reads recipes you already have and writes them down properly. It is not a publisher, not a nutritionist, and not a party to what happens in your kitchen.
1. Who this is between
Chefo is made and run by us, and this agreement is between you and us. Using the app — including using it without an account, which is how it starts — means accepting these terms. If you would rather not, delete the app; nothing is owed either way.
Chefo is an app for iPhone on iOS 17 and later, downloaded from the App Store, and for Android 7 and later, downloaded from Google Play. Whichever store you took it from, that store's own terms govern the download and any payment, and where its rules and these terms disagree about a purchase, its rules win. You need to be old enough to hold an Apple ID or a Google account in your country.
- Not to use Chefo against the law, or to bring in material you have no right to
- Not to script, scrape or automate the app, or work around the import allowance
- Not to go looking for another person's box, their recipes or their shared pages
2. Your account
The first time you open Chefo it makes an anonymous box for you, so a recipe can be saved before you have signed up for anything. Signing in — with Apple on iPhone, with Google on Android, or with your email address on either — gives that same box an identity: you do not start again. Keep whatever you signed in with; it is the only way back to the box.
An anonymous box is not a backup. Because nothing is attached to it, an anonymous box that stays empty is swept after a week, and one left unopened for six months is swept with the recipes still in it. Signing in stops that from ever applying to you. You can delete your account from Settings whenever you like, and we may close an account used for the things listed above.
3. What you bring in
The recipes you bring in stay yours. We claim nothing over them. What you give us is permission to store them, sync them to your phone, and pass what you sent to the model that reads it — which is simply the app working. Having the right to import a thing is your side of it: a recipe someone sent you is fine, and copying a book you bought is your call and your risk.
AND WHAT WE DO NOT DO
Your recipes are not sold, rented or handed to advertisers, and they are not used as training data. The models that read an import are given the thing being read and nothing about you.
4. What Chefo does not promise
Chefo reads recipes with a machine, and a machine misreads things. Amounts, times and temperatures can come back wrong; anything the app was unsure of is marked rather than hidden. Check them before you cook, and check them properly where it matters — raw meat, allergies, anything you are making for a child. Chefo is not medical or dietary advice. The app is provided as it stands, we do not promise it will never be down, and to the extent the law allows our liability is limited to what you have paid us.
5. Free and Pro
The free plan is a real version of the app rather than a trial: cooking, timers, hands free and the shopping list are never behind a wall. What the free plan has is ceilings, and Pro lifts them. Pro is a subscription billed by Apple or by Google that renews until you cancel it in the App Store or in Google Play; the price for your region is shown before you buy, and cancelling leaves you on free with everything you have already saved.
6. Sharing
A shared recipe or cookbook becomes a page at a long, unguessable address that anybody holding the link can read. Sharing is publishing, so share what you have the right to share. You can revoke a share whenever you like and the page stops opening; what you cannot do is pull back a link somebody has already been sent. Write to us about a shared page that infringes your rights and we will take it down.
7. Ending it, and contact
You can stop using Chefo at any time, and delete the account from Settings when you want it gone for good. We can end this agreement if these terms are broken. The terms themselves may change — the date at the top says when they last did, and using the app after a change is accepting it. Write to us and a person answers.
